Mbps to Bytes Converter

Convert between Mbps and Bytes/s in real time. No buttons — results update as you type.

Decimals:

Network speeds are usually in Mbps (decimal): 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits per second.

1 byte = 8 bits. So Bytes/s = bits/s ÷ 8.

How the Mbps to Bytes conversion works

Internet speeds are typically expressed in megabits per second (Mbps). To convert to Bytes per second (B/s), we convert megabits to bits (× 1,000,000) and then convert bits to bytes by dividing by 8. The calculator updates instantly as you type in either field.

How to use the Mbps to Bytes calculator

  1. Enter a value in Mbps to see the equivalent Bytes/s, KB/s, and MB/s.
  2. Or enter a value in Bytes/s to get the equivalent Mbps.
  3. Use the Decimals control to adjust how many decimal places are shown.
  4. Use Share result to copy a quick summary to your clipboard.

About Mbps and Bytes

Mbps means “megabits per second” and is commonly used by ISPs and networks. A byte is 8 bits, and most file sizes are shown in bytes (or KB/MB/GB). That’s why a download speed shown in Mbps will look about 8× larger than the file-transfer speed shown in MB/s.

How many Bytes per second are in 1 Mbps?

Using decimal units (common for internet speeds):

1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits/s ÷ 8 = 125,000 Bytes/s.

Why does 100 Mbps not mean 100 MB/s?

Because Mbps is in bits and MB/s is in bytes. 100 Mbps ÷ 8 = 12.5 MB/s (decimal) before protocol overhead. Real-world speeds can be lower due to Wi-Fi, routing, and network overhead.

Mbps to MB/s quick mental math

A simple rule: divide Mbps by 8. Example: 80 Mbps ≈ 10 MB/s (decimal). This converter shows exact values with your chosen decimals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Mbps in 1 byte/second?
1 byte/second (1 B/s) = 8 bits/second. Since 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits/second, 1 B/s = 8 ÷ 1,000,000 Mbps = 0.000008 Mbps (8×10⁻⁶ Mbps).
What Is a Megabit?
A megabit (Mb) is a unit of digital data equal to 1,000,000 bits (10⁶ bits) in decimal/SI units. Internet speeds are commonly measured in megabits.
What Is a Byte?
A byte (B) is a unit of digital information made up of 8 bits. File sizes (KB, MB, GB) are usually expressed in bytes.
How Many Bytes Are in a Megabit?
1 megabit = 1,000,000 bits. Since 1 byte = 8 bits, 1 megabit = 1,000,000 ÷ 8 = 125,000 bytes (decimal).
How to convert from Mbps to B/s?
Use: B/s = Mbps × 1,000,000 ÷ 8. Example: 10 Mbps = 10 × 1,000,000 ÷ 8 = 1,250,000 B/s.
Is 1 Mbps or 1 B/s faster?
1 Mbps is much faster. 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits/s = 125,000 B/s, while 1 B/s is only 8 bits/s.
What is Megabits per second?
Megabits per second (Mbps) is a data transfer rate showing how many megabits are transmitted each second. It’s commonly used to describe internet and network speeds (for example, 100 Mbps).
